Bucks Harbor

This was started on a cool summer morning at Bucks Harbor.. I was on my way home to Portland and debated if I should paint or get on the road. I'm glad I stayed. As always it was liberating. It's funny, I always have to fight this inner demon that keeps telling me to quit even before I start..
A lobsterman, joined me and we chatted a bit. His wife, he said, was an artist as well. He is a hard working man.. I went back home, eventually, and again I was debating on how to finish this or if I should trash it as it didn't look good. I decided to work on it. The boats kept on evolving as well as the sky, water......I like how it looks. I have to stop now and get ready for work.. As one good artist said, "The most important thing is faith! You have to believe in yourself and have faith that the painting will work, otherwise, it will just turn to garbage!"

Pemaquid point

I went on a quick tip along the Maine coast..This is at Pemaquid point lighthouse. I was more interested in the old woman with the green jacket, rather than your typical light house paintings...I have to say, I have seen Andrew Wyeth chop the top of this lighthouse with good effect, so I did the same, for compositional interest..The sketch and the painting were done very quickly and effortlessly..I like it..By the way, it was dark, cloudy, and cold at times, despite being on Memorial day!

Ian's Boat
This is on a late October morning, in 2013. My friend Ian and I went on a boat ride along the Casco bay. In this painting, I wanted to convey a sense of warmth and serenity..The orange is warm and welcoming. The light blue is very relaxing. The trip was very relaxing indeed, except my fingers and toes got so cold that I couldn't move them for a while. Ian promised me another boat ride in exchange for this painting. I gladly accepted.
