This is one of the sketches I did today. What a great day it was! Sunny and bright!

Study

I have been painting very quickly sometimes without having the time to study and plan. I did this study sketch last night in preparation for my new painting. Studies are very important. You look at a picture and say, how can I make this busy subject a simple and expressive painting? The answer is: you sketch it, and experiment before you paint. I hope the final painting would be a masterpiece!!!

This is a 10x14 watercolor skerch I did in 20 minutes!

Low Tide/ Fog

This was a very dull picture that I took during the fog..I wanted to add a summer feeling to it, so I used warm instead of cool colors. I used a pen to draw the ships.

Blue Hill Fair

This is done from a few pictures I took at Blue Hill Fair last year. I tried to convey the strong sunlight, the happy mood, the very colorful atmosphere, and I think I did a good job! I put a lot of details, but I kept them blurred so I can keep the focus on the main elements of this composition. The viewer's eye will go directly to the big tent, then go down to the girls in the front, and then move all around the picture..........

Paint Eastport Day 2006

I was very surprised today when I got this picture. Every year, the artists around here go and paint Eastport, then they auction their paintings for sale. Unfortunately that day, I did not take any pictures, not even of the painting that I did. So, this is the only memory I have from that day. A tourist from North Carolina took this picture last year, and I guess she enjoyed the auction, so she came again this year, and gave them this picture.

Trees

I did this yesterday. It was a very nice and sunny day. There were these dry hay grass shapes or whatever you call them, and they had a nice contrast against the bright greens. I tried to convey a sense of a calm happiness, but I was disappointed with the greens. I am not sure about how I feel about this. But at least, I am still painting....

South Beach

I fixed the South Beach Painting, or should I say ruined it?!! I don't know...

I guess it is. A lady gave me a picture to paint last year, and I finally did it. I have mixed feelings about it... I like the blues!

Mido

This is Mido my beagle. I did it on hot pressed(smooth) paper..The colors were very slippery and difficult to handle, but my aim was more to capture his character rather than do a perfect painting. Afterall, I am an impressionist, not a realist!

New England Farm House

I sketched this in Jonesport because I didn't have my camera. I only sketched the house, and it was in the middle of town, so I created a complementary background! The quality of the photo is hazy because I used the flash!

South Beach

My first intention was to put the people on the beach. But the colors look so pure I am afraid to touch it!

Quoddy Park Cliffs 2

This is done on hot pressed paper. The colors were very slippery! Any way, it is a different interpretation.

Cliffs at Quody State Park

I went on a hike last year in Lubec. These cliffs were magnificent. They were so high that I couldn't fit them in a picture, no matter how close I got to the edge. Ofcourse this made someone scared, but finally I was able to get the picture. I tried to be colorful with my paints because that day was really cloudy!

Acrylic

I haven't painted for a while. I feel really dry. I tried to do some acrylics. I have mixed feelings about it! It does look simple, but I used 3 photographs I took last summer. The clouds were actually facing the other way. I tried to create a composition that leads the eye through the painting. You look at the boat, then the floats lead you to the light house, which then leads you through the clouds, all in a zig-zag or Z pattern. I also tried to repeat the same colors throughout, like the rosy reds in the clouds and the water, and the blues in the water and the sky!!

Bistro

This is a painting for my friend Scott. This was done from a card he gave me. It is one of my experimentations in acrylics. It is different to stop thinking in watercolor, but it doesn't look too bad....

Low Tide 2

This is done from the same sketch I did before. However, I was driving back from work, and the color of the sea was very dark because of the wind. Some parts of the landscape were dark because of the moving clouds. I retained the feel of that in my memory, and tried to convey it in this painting...

My Art Show

My art show started last Saturday. I had a good turn up. A lot of people came and enjoyed a night of good food and wine. I was very happy to receive a lot of admiring comments. This made me feel happy and appreciated.

Low Tide in Machiasport

I was driving by and I noticed the low tide and the blue sky. I didn't have my camera with me, so I sketched with my pen on a piece of paper. I registered all the colors in my memory and with a few notes on the sketch. I hope you like it.
