Snow Storm in Machias
This is an acrylic painting! I wanted to depict the feel of the snow storm that hit us over the weekend. Nature at it's best! Angry, scary, and magnificent at the same time! I tried to convey the feeling of cold and emptiness, where details get lost and found. At the same time, I wanted to be colorful, so I threw some pinks and greens into the sky, which may not be evident in this low quality photo.

Where the Blueberry Barrens meet the Sky!
Morning after the storm. I headed in search of a painting spot. I arrived at the blueberry barrems in Jonesboro/Columbia!? The fields stretched around on the top where there was nothing but the sky and the wind! I tried to set up my easel but the wind threw it several times on the dry rocks. The wind was very chilly. I almost went back home to enjoy the warm shelter, but I was determined! I sat in my car, put the paper block in my lap and painted. My clothes were all stained with the color, and it was definitely a struggle. But at the end, I felt satisfied.

Study
I have been painting very quickly sometimes without having the time to study and plan. I did this study sketch last night in preparation for my new painting. Studies are very important. You look at a picture and say, how can I make this busy subject a simple and expressive painting? The answer is: you sketch it, and experiment before you paint. I hope the final painting would be a masterpiece!!!

Low Tide/ Fog
Blue Hill Fair
This is done from a few pictures I took at Blue Hill Fair last year. I tried to convey the strong sunlight, the happy mood, the very colorful atmosphere, and I think I did a good job! I put a lot of details, but I kept them blurred so I can keep the focus on the main elements of this composition. The viewer's eye will go directly to the big tent, then go down to the girls in the front, and then move all around the picture..........

Paint Eastport Day 2006
I was very surprised today when I got this picture. Every year, the artists around here go and paint Eastport, then they auction their paintings for sale. Unfortunately that day, I did not take any pictures, not even of the painting that I did. So, this is the only memory I have from that day. A tourist from North Carolina took this picture last year, and I guess she enjoyed the auction, so she came again this year, and gave them this picture.

Trees
I did this yesterday. It was a very nice and sunny day. There were these dry hay grass shapes or whatever you call them, and they had a nice contrast against the bright greens. I tried to convey a sense of a calm happiness, but I was disappointed with the greens. I am not sure about how I feel about this. But at least, I am still painting....

Cliffs at Quody State Park
I went on a hike last year in Lubec. These cliffs were magnificent. They were so high that I couldn't fit them in a picture, no matter how close I got to the edge. Ofcourse this made someone scared, but finally I was able to get the picture. I tried to be colorful with my paints because that day was really cloudy!

Acrylic
I haven't painted for a while. I feel really dry. I tried to do some acrylics. I have mixed feelings about it! It does look simple, but I used 3 photographs I took last summer. The clouds were actually facing the other way. I tried to create a composition that leads the eye through the painting. You look at the boat, then the floats lead you to the light house, which then leads you through the clouds, all in a zig-zag or Z pattern. I also tried to repeat the same colors throughout, like the rosy reds in the clouds and the water, and the blues in the water and the sky!!

A portrait of The Artist as a child
I painted this from a picture when I was a child! Life was simple then. Just a few bright flowers meant the world to me! I know it looks a bit crazy. But I did not sketch it or use any pencil lines. All was done with the brush and colors! I wanted to be free, expressive, and careless. No boundaries and No rules!!!
